Jersey Shore PFLAG Annual Report - October 2009

PFLAG Jersey Shore, through its dedicated members, accomplished the following in the year Oct 2008 - Sept 2009.

Support
  • Held monthly support meetings in Toms River, with as many as 24 participants
  • Started a Monmouth County meeting in Shrewsbury, with monthly support meetings starting in September 2009 and a launch event in October 2009
  • Provided informational programs, videos, and speakers at monthly meetings
  • Responded to 34 inquiries by telephone, and e-mail requests for information
  • Maintained and updated a website with links to other support organizations
  • Maintained a Yahoo group, and started a blog
Education
  • Presented a half-day Anti-bullying Seminar co-sponsored by Ocean County Human Relations Commission and the Ocean County Library; attended by 98 school and law enforcement personnel, Feb 2009.
  • Co-sponsored public programs with the Ocean County Library:
    • "What Was It Like to be a Gay Teen Back in the Day?," panel presentation, Little Egg Harbor Branch, June, 2009
    • "Help! My Kid Just Came Out to Me, What Do I Do Now?," panel presentations Point Pleasant Boro branch and Barnegat Branch, June 2009
  • Co-staffed a booth at Pride Day celebration at Asbury Park, June, 2009
  • Staffed a booth at Point Pleasant Night Out, August, 2009
  • Displayed PFLAG literature and participated as panelists at GSA Forum, Oct 2008.
Advocacy
  • Through the email and Yahoo lists, members share news about issues of concern to the GLBTQQI community, and are urged to contact legislators to express their views
Networking
  • Participated in monthly conference calls with PFLAG North Atlantic Region representatives
  • Attended monthly meetings of the Ocean County Human Relations Commission, and aided in their long range planning process.
  • Strengthened connections with Jersey Shore Q-Spot, GLSEN, Ocean County Library's Diversity Committee, Christ Episcopal Church in Toms River, United Church of Christ of Toms River, Unitarian Universalist Ocean County Congregation
  • .
  • Began connections with Toms River Superintendent of Schools, The Presbyterian Church at Shrewsbury; Murray Grove, Howell UCC.
Fundraising
    No fundraising events were held during the fiscal year.
